Why Who Rescued Who?

Everyone has their personal circumstance for being homeless. In my 54 years on this planet, I spent about 30 of them drunk and in despair. Alcoholism took me to a place of darkness that I wasn't even aware existed. I went from managing an office, making $85,000 a year to living in a one room efficiency apartment above a garage. I had lost everything and just about everyone, including my own life when I decided I could not control this disease on my own. Yes, disease.  When I heard those words together for the first time it literally blew my mind. My entire adult life I thought (and had been told) that I was a sinner/failure that just couldn't get it right. It was instilled in me that if I only tried harder I would be cured. It turns out that I am not a sinner, or a failure. I am a sick individual that needed help.

When I became willing to turn my life over to a power greater than myself I began to change. Life suddenly had color and meaning again.  For the first time in years, after working a thorough, open minded and honest 12 step program things began to look promising.

I cannot express my gratitude enough for the amazing people along my journey towards recovery.  I'm not sure why, but they believed in me when I couldn't.

We believe in you.

We are well aware that the majority of people struggling with homelessness refuse to get help because they do not want to abandon their beloved pet. The shelters are currently at max capacity.

It was in recovery that I learned that I can not do it alone, nor do I have to. On my path to recovery I have met many people just like me. Good hearted but broken. Not only broken but in many cases, destroyed.  This disease is horrifying.

Homelessness is horrifying.

However there is a way out of this hole, this despair.

I certainly can't keep what I've been so amazingly and freely given if I don't give it away to someone else.

Please join us in our desire to change the world, one soul and one community at a time.
